The Module:
This task spans eight weeks, and is your final one for the year.
It is aimed at helping you to understand how to plan, prepare, present and evaluate food solutions for specific purposes and special occassions. Throughout the module you will learn about many different events, and how they vary, as well as how the customers (their wants and needs) can cause the menu to be altered.
Throughout the learning process we will be learning a number of different techniches, as well as a number of new recipes suitable for the focus area.
This module is very important for everyone. As a home cook you will undoubtable be required to host a number of people, whether it is a sibling's 21st or grand-final footy barbecue, or just a few friends over. These are different events, with different people and would therefore require different foods. Providing the grand-final watchers with quiche and salad might not go down very well. This module helps you understand the whole process of feeding the masses.
But beyond this home cooking, this module also aims at preparing you for a job in the industry: working in restaurant kitchens, with caterers, or a number of other jobs available in the industry.
As per usual, throughout this module and every other module, OH&S is a vital element of the kitchen environment. Working on big events generally requires more people working in confined spaces and therefore one must be hyper-aware of your kitchen practices and how they might impact on others.
